I set up a tour for the apartment. The manager said there is someone else approved and interested and asked if I'd be willing to put down $375 to hold the place. I did. The day of the tour I called the manager to let him know I was there. I ended up waiting outside for half an hour. The manager finally came out and let us tour the place. When I saw just how small the place was I asked the manager if my $375 deposit was refundable. He said, "oh ya, definitely." After leaving I text the owner of the property that I was not interested. He thanked me for getting back to him so quickly. I never signed any of the documents the owner sent me over email and a month later he still has not refunded my $375 holding deposit. He is still ignorning my emails. Not a place I recommend getting involved with.

  • I have moved out of Lair Parke. A summary of my perspective: I loved the nooks crannies. In the hallways were small doors in strange spaces leading to closed off dumbwaiters and probably gnome houses for all I know. The people who live here seem exclusively quiet and introvert except for the manager who greets me in a way that conveys he means well. Despite her age Lair Parke dresses in chandelier, filigree iron, and the old perfume only a historic building could muster. Her originality shines with built in dressers and bench. The wood floors get almost visibly warm from the sunlight in the windows. Every single apartment is a studio. I think that is charming - a community of living small. That was one reason I looked forward to living here. I was moving from a two bedroom and had been idolizing the idea of my own little space in a gypsy vardo or tiny house. Somehow this was that much more unique in concept. My organizational approach was to only have what is essential, make sure it is decorative, and use the spaces up the walls and the ceiling for flare and storage. I never felt that I went without, that I could not access what I needed, that there wasn’t enough space, or that it didn’t look in a way that appealed to my sense of style. I couldn’t imagine that would be the case when I first laid eyes on my home, but it turned out well. I even had a place for the frivolous that I couldn’t go without such as my shoes, Christmas wrapping paper and all of my crafting supplies. There are two each of washing machine and dryer for the entire building to share. I was concerned there would be a high amount of competition to do laundry. There was not. It turns out introverts are fairly respectful people. Also, you can pay by credit card or spare change. Thank you for that. My packages and laundry were never stolen. Although I paid for the city parking permit, I always had a place to park when I came home from work. Mostly there are businesses in the area and they leave work in the afternoon. This frees up space for you just in time. There are bus stops all around within walking distance. The bus that returns from downtown stops right outside Lair Parke. This was very convenient when I wanted to avoid downtown parking and came home tired (er...something). That said, I could walk to Saturday market in 20 minutes, and enjoyed doing so. Lair Hill Park is about a block away. It offers trees, grass, benches, and recreational areas. Lair Hill Bistro is not much further. Open weekdays I would get inexpensive beer on happy hour and eat a variety of delicious food while watching live music. It is a very welcoming and relaxing place to go. There is a 711 nearby for quick grocery grabs. Lair Parke is located near several colleges and a children’s Waldorf school. From my particular window I could see the fireworks at the waterfront go off. It turns out this happens more than is scheduled publically. Even though we are all mad at the housing market the price is fair market value. The Ross Island Bridge on ramp runs right next to this building. If you choose to move in you should not be surprised by the traffic. I sleep deeply and I also have a white noise machine. You are basically right next to immediate access to downtown, NW, SE, and Beaverton. It took me 15 min or less to get to all of those locations. The internet is free. If it doesn't function to your standards you can always have your own installed. This is an old building that is not managed in a corporate way. If that does not appeal to you than you may get frustrated. I think in any circumstance it never hurts to take responsibility for your own choices and actions and to pay other people some respect. The front door and trash bins requires a key for entry. I lived there a year. I moved out to be closer to my new job in Gresham. I did get my entire deposit back without any deductions.

  • I've lived here just under 3 months and have enjoyed my time. As has been stated in all of the other posts, the units are small but typically seem to fit everyone's needs. My particular unit fits me just fine. The manager and owner are both kind/responsive. Rent is at a good price for location and what is included. Honestly, I felt like I hit the jackpot finding this place and every visitor I've had has mentioned how cozy it feels. My only criticisms would be the following: the Wi-Fi sometimes isn't great, it can get noisy at night outside, and it's mildly annoying to have to unlock the trash/recycling bins. With all that being said, none of it is really a problem when it compares to other places I've rented from. I will emphasize that I haven't lived here that long so my opinion may change. But at this time (March 2018) I have few complaints about Lair Parke.
